Best Westin talks dramatic Indonesia expansion plans

Best Western has unveiled a major expansion strategy for Indonesia, with plans to more than quadruple its portfolio in the country from four to seventeen properties in less than two years.

The new developments will boost Best Western’s inventory in Indonesia from 535 rooms today to more than 2,500 by year-end 2013.

Currently, Best Western operates two hotels in the beautiful resort island of Bali – Best Western Resort Kuta and Best Western Kuta Beach – as well as two properties in Java’s key metropolitan regions; Best Western Premier Solo and Best Western Mangga Dua Hotel & Residence, Jakarta.

But the company’s development will gather pace this year with the opening of five new hotels.

The Indonesian capital Jakarta will get a second Best Western hotel - a 140-room hotel in Serpong - while Bali will become home to two more Best Westerns, adding 177 rooms to the company’s island-wide inventory.

Also this year, Best Western will make its debut in two up-and-coming Indonesian destinations – Semarang and Banjarmasin.

The Central Java city of Semarang will see the launch of a 123-room hotel, while Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan will become home to a new 139-room Best Western.

Then in 2013 Best Western’s Indonesian expansion moves into top gear, with the addition of no fewer than eight hotels across the archipelago.

Semarang will receive its second new Best Western next year, boosting its city-wide inventory to more than 370 rooms, while two more properties will launch in West Java; a 287-room hotel in Bogor and a 200-room property in Manalu.

Best Western’s Jakarta portfolio will also double following the opening of two new hotels adding 400 rooms to the Indonesian capital.

Next year will also see Best Western debut in Indonesia’s second largest city; Surabaya. The new 140-room Best Western will serve the city’s growing population of 2.7 million people and a huge influx of business and leisure travellers.

Finally, Kalimantan will see further expansion in 2013.

The 250-room hotel will become the company’s first ever property in the city of Samarinda, East Kalimantan.
