BARCELÓ HOTEL GROUP OPENS ITS SECOND HOTEL IN GERMANY
The Barceló Hotel Group announces the addition of a new hotel to its European portfolio. The company has signed a lease agreement with IREMIS - a European real estate investment manager, through its IREMIS Hotel Real Estate Fund - for the former Pullman Dresden Newa, a 4-star hotel in the German city of Dresden. This will be the second establishment managed by the hotel group in Germany, where it already has Barceló Hamburg, a design hotel with a Spanish feel, surrounded by the best cultural, shopping and technological alternatives the modern metropolis has to offer.
Barceló Hotel Group’s new hotel in Dresden will be initially called Occidental Dresden Newa, and it will undergo a substantial renovation starting next year, to be repositioned it as one of the best urban hotels in the city. It will subsequently operate under the Barceló Hotels & Resorts brand.
Located in the heart of the Old Town, the 319-room Occidental Dresden Newa is centrally located, within walking distance of the main railway station and a leisurely stroll to the city centre through the pedestrianised Prager Strasse shopping street. It is the perfect spot for business travellers as well as visitors drawn to the city’s varied cultural alternatives.
Dresden, the capital of the state of Saxony in eastern Germany, has a prestigious cultural and artistic reputation. This European city is famous for having over 60 museums, 35 theatres, famous orchestras and choirs, valuable art collections and countless Baroque architectural wonders, such as the Frauenkirche, Zwinger Palace and Semper Opera House. These buildings show the artistic and architectural advances of their era and also tell the story of the German city’s resistance and revival following World War II.
In 2024, the Barceló Hotel Group has invested nearly €400 million to purchase new hotels and to undertake renovation and repositioning projects. This new hotel in Germany confirms the Barceló Hotel Group’s commitment to its expansion in Central Europe, where the company opened its first hotel in Prague in 1993. The hotel chain currently operates eleven hotels in Germany, Slovenia, Hungary, Italy, Poland and the Czech Republic, resulting in a positive impact on the economic, cultural and social development of the cities where the hotels are located through direct and indirect job creation and by partnering with local suppliers.

According to José Ramón Alvarez-Cervela Rodríguez, Europe Director for the Barceló Hotel Group: ‘Europe is a strategic region for the company’s expansion plans due to its tremendous tourism potential. The Barceló Hotel Group is always vigilant for opportunities that require our investment or result from agreements with third parties in the region. This latest addition increases our portfolio to 12 hotels in Central Europe. It marks another step in the Barceló Hotel Group’s strategy of finding urban assets to be repositioned and join other destinations where we are already present, or to enter new markets.
