A Celebration of Cultural Connections this Festive Season at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London
Celebrate this festive season in style at the recently opened Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London, located on historic Hanover Square, at the crossroads of art, fashion and culture. From the chic shops of New Bond Street to the iconic Liberty on Regent Street just steps away, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair is the perfect base to explore the magic of Mayfair this festive season. The hotel brings to life its unique blend of East and West, featuring exclusive cultural collaborations that honour its Asian heritage while embracing the creativity of local Mayfair artisans.
Festive decorations with a difference
This season, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair’s festive décor is inspired by the hotel’s Asian heritage and local neighbourhood. In celebration of Chef Akira Back’s Japanese and Korean culinary offerings, a striking tree sculpture, “Millennium Pine Tree” by renowned Korean artist Lee Gil Rae, will be showcased in the restaurant. Created from copper tubing, this sculpture reflects the beauty and resilience of nature. Presented in collaboration with Opera Art Gallery, the installation draws on the greenery surrounding the hotel, echoing the vision of Tokyo-based design studio, Curiosity.
Nearby, Montblanc’s New Bond Street flagship store will create a unique Christmas tree made from books, each sharing “Happy Holidays” in various languages. Decorated with custom ornaments, including Montblanc’s iconic Meisterstück nib in honour of its 100th anniversary, the display centres around The Desk, designed by Artistic Director Marco Tomasetta, where guests are invited to write and post their holiday messages to loved ones.
In the hotel lobby, a magnificent golden pine wishing tree by floral partner Lavender Green will take centre stage. Adorned with pinecones and origami fans in gold, green and burgundy, the tree is inspired by the hotel’s signature fan, created with the House of Vivienne Westwood. Guests can write their wishes at Montblanc’s director’s desk and post them in a special mailbox, after which the team will hang the wishes on the tree, in the spirit of hope and celebration. The hotel’s interior and exterior will be elegantly decorated, capturing the timeless charm of Mayfair with a festive warmth.
