Wicked UK launches travel trade digital resource

WICKED, the classic West End musical, has launched an official information and services hub designed specifically and exclusively for travel industry practitioners. The new digital resource -www.WickedTravelTrade.co.uk - provides relevant information on the award-winning musical’s tourism offerings and ways of booking.

International and domestic visitors to London continue to make WICKED their show of choice in ever increasing numbers. Bookings from South Korea increased by almost 12% year on year (2017-2018), making the territory the hit musical’s second biggest incoming market, after the United States, which is also up over 9% year on year. WICKED also saw more than 20% increases in year on year sales from Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Data provided by Encore Tickets.

“As we head into our fourteenth year in London, Wicked is now very much part of the visitor landscape and our international audience numbers continue to grow. Our close proximity to many of the city’s most popular attractions, including Buckingham Palace, and the multi-billion-pound regeneration of the Victoria neighbourhood are also contributing to, and enhancing, the visitor experience to Wicked. The launch of our digital resource is testament to the incredible engagement we have received from the travel trade and an investment in the long-term future of the show.” Michael McCabe, Executive Producer (UK), WICKED

“Wicked ticks all the boxes for delivering an unforgettable West End musical experience for visitors from all around the world. Appealing to all audiences, young or old, groups or individuals – there’s something for everyone. The global success of Wicked means that it is continually one of our top requested shows from international visitors and we’re proud to recommend it to our customers.” Jo Bachelor, Head of Sales, Encore

“The tourism industry is a key pillar of the capital’s economy, providing great employment opportunities for Londoners and investment right across the city. Live entertainment, such as the successful stage musical Wicked, provides a key element of London’s tourism offering and ensures that the capital remains the destination city of choice for overseas visitors.” Joss Croft, CEO UKInbound

A must-see for all visitors to London, WICKED is one of the West End’s longest-running, most colourful and spectacular musicals, featuring award-winning costumes, gigantic sets and show-stopping songs by three-time Academy Award®-winner Stephen Schwartz. WICKED’s global audience has already reached an incredible 60 million people and the show has been performed in over 130 cities in 16 countries.

“Packed with wit, storming songs and beautiful costumes” (The Guardian), WICKED is already the 9th longest running musical in West End history and has won more than 100 international awards, including three Tony Awards® on Broadway and two Olivier Awards in the UK. The production is also the recipient of a Visit London Gold Award and a 2018 ‘Certificate of Excellence’ from Trip Advisor.

The Apollo Victoria Theatre, home to WICKED since its West End premiere in 2006, is a few minutes’ walk from many of the capital’s most popular tourist attractions, including Buckingham Palace, The Royal Mews, The Queen’s Gallery, Westminster Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and St James’s Park (London’s oldest Royal Park), as well as many of its most prestigious hotels, restaurants and theatres. The Rubens at the Palace, the official partner hotel of WICKED, is located opposite Buckingham Palace. Guests can stay in elegantly appointed Rooms and Suites, enjoy a ‘Royal Afternoon Tea’ in the Palace Lounge, cocktails and live music in the New York Bar and savour delicious cuisine in the English Grill and authentic flavours in The Curry Room.
