Hostelworld opens first all-sand hostel in Australia

Gold Coast residents this morning woke up to discover the world’s first beachfront hostel made entirely of sand.

Hostelworld and Gold Coast Tourism commissioned world champion sand sculptor Dennis Massoud, or ‘Sandman’ as he is known, to create this impressive structure straight out of the very golden sand the area is famed for.

It took more than 24 tonnes of sand and 21 days to create the hostel on Broadbeach on the Gold Coast, Australia.

The structure isn’t just a beautiful piece of art, but a fully functioning hostel that will be open to the public to stay and socialise in from September 20th-22nd.

The Sand Hostel can be booked on the Hostelworld site for the night of Thursday September 21st, giving those lucky enough to secure their bed the chance to enjoy a once in a life time stay and turbo-charge their adventure.

After enjoying carefully curated activities ranging from surf lessons to cocktail making classes, guests will be able to stay in either an eight-bed dorm or luxury private room, carefully designed for guests’ comfort with a natural, beachy theme.
