Royal Jordanian (RJ) signed an agreement with VIA Rail Canada, Canada’s rail passenger service, whereby RJ may sell train tickets to its passengers wishing to continue their travel beyond the RJ destination in Canada - Montreal - to Toronto and Ottawa.

The transformation started in 2007, when the Government of Canada announced a five-year, $516 million investment to strengthen passenger rail services. Another $407 million was added in 2009 through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the Government’s economic stimulus program. It adds up to $923 million - the biggest capital investment in VIA Rail’s history.

Due to an accident involving a Canadian National freight train near Cornwall, Ontario, Monday morning, VIA Rail Canada has had to reroute its Montreal-Toronto trains, in both directions, via Ottawa, or in some cases replace its trains with bus service, over the past day and a half.
