Thousands of flights have been cancelled in the US due to severe weather conditions. Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and Aer Lingus are among airlines that have cancelled services to New York and Boston in the wake of Storm Nemo.

Met Office predicts active storm season

The Met Office has confirmed it expects an active North Atlantic storm season this year – with as many as 27 tropical storms anticipated between July and November. This is well ahead of the long-term average of 12.4 storms per season, with the government body also warning the intensity of the storms could pose further dangers.
