World Ski Awards honours Val Thorens with World’s Best Ski Resort title
Legendary French ski destination Val Thorens has taken the title of World’s Best Ski Resort at the 2016 World Ski Awards. The fourth instalment of the red-carpet event took place at the five-star A-ROSA Kitzbühel this evening, welcoming the elite of the ski hospitality industry to Austria. Also among the winners were W Verbier, walking away with the title of World’s Best Ski Hotel, and LAAX, recognised by voters as the World’s Best Freestyle Resort.

Final preparations are being put in place as A-ROSA Kitzbühel prepares to welcome the 2016 World Ski Awards. The fourth instalment of the red-carpet event will take place in Kitzbühel from November 18th-20th, welcoming the elite of the ski hospitality industry to Austria. An extensive weekend programme is in place which will see guests invited to engage in three days of exclusive networking events, private skiing, sight-seeing tours and a host of other activities.
New Salzburg ski route from George Best Belfast City Airport
George Best Belfast City Airport has launched a new ski route to Salzburg, in conjunction with leading ski holiday operators Topflight and Crystal Ski Holidays. Starting on Christmas Eve and running every Saturday until March 11th, 2017, the weekly Aer Lingus charter flight will provide direct access for local passengers to a wide range of Austria’s finest ski resorts.
New leadership for Badrutt’s Palace Hotel
Badrutt’s Palace Hotel has announced two new senior staff appointments ahead of this coming winter season. Richard Leuenberger will join the iconic hotel as general manager, tasked with continuing the Grande Dame’s principles of tradition and innovation. At the same time, Yves Gardiol will take on the role of chief executive, following 12 years as general manager.
Leo Trippi acquires Alpine Guru to create ski hospitality giant
Leo Trippi has announced the acquisition of UK-based luxury accommodation specialist Alpine Guru for an undisclosed fee. The deal sees the two brands of Alpine Guru, Villa Guru and Alpine Guru, join Leo Trippi to create a specialist group of travel companies with a worldwide portfolio of more than 2,000 luxury summer and winter vacation properties.
The Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Show to return to London
Back for its second season at Battersea Park, The Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Show will bring the mountains to the city in an immersive après experience for the whole family. Located at Battersea Evolution, the show takes place over half term and just before Halloween, from October 27th-30th.

The Brunn eight-seater chairlift, which was opened in December 2015, represents a new highlight for the Kitzbühel ropeways, demonstrating the premium character of the award-winning ski area.
Eurostar prepares to launch ski season 2016 tickets

The high-speed passenger rail service linking the UK with mainland Europe opens sales for its popular service from London St Pancras and Ashford International to the heart of the French Alps on July 20th.

Olympic ski champion Stein Eriksen dies
Olympic ski champion Stein Eriksen had died at the age of 88 his family has announced. His name has been synonymous with style and elegance among ski fans since his gold and silver medal victories in the 1952 Oslo Olympics Games. Having also won three gold medals at the World Championships in Äre, Sweden in 1954 in slalom, giant slalom and the combined races, he was the first alpine skier to win triple gold at the event.
LAAX takes triple crown at World Ski Awards
Winter ski destination LAAX has been crowned Switzerland’s Best Ski Resort for the third time in a row at the prestigious World Ski Awards. The Gala Ceremony took place on Saturday night in Kitzbühel. This accolade is awarded by both the jury and the public and is a sister event to the World Travel Awards.

World Ski Awards has recognised the achievements of the Kitzbühel Wonder Team during a glittering Gala Ceremony in Austria. The six friends - all members of the Kitzbühel Ski Club - grew up to dominate international ski competition, taking an unprecedented 27 Olympic and World Championship medals in a golden decade between 1950 and 1960.
