Ryanair cuts Edinburgh traffic by 15% from summer 2012
Ryanair, has announced that it would cut its base at Edinburgh from 7 to 6 aircraft, with the loss of 5 routes, 300,000 pax p.a., leading to the loss of up to 300 jobs, following the breakdown of negotiations with the high cost BAA Edinburgh about a competitive cost base for further Ryanair growth at Edinburgh. Ryanair also warned that BAA Edinburgh’s high cost base will lead to significant further cuts in Ryanair’s operation, if its 5 year agreement (which expires in Oct 2012) is not extended on more competitive terms.
Ryanair sues Budget Travel over screenscraping
Ryanair has launched a High Court case against Budget Travel, for breach of its terms of use and intellectual property rights. The low-cost carrier has asked the court to prohibit Budget Travel from unauthorised screenscraping and reselling of Ryanair seats at inflated prices to consumers.
Ryanair warned again by the Advertising Standards Authority
Two advertisements for Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair have been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority. A total of 17 complaints were received by the government body after the airline issued two adverts of women posing in their underwear under the slogan ‘Red Hot Fares & Crew! One way from £9.99’.
Ryanair opens 8 Warsaw Modlin routes from 16 July 2012
Ryanair has announced it would open 8 routes from Warsaw toBrussels, WarsawBudapest, Dublin, London, Milan, Oslo, RomeRome and Stockholm as soon as Warsaw’s new Modlin airport opens on 16 July 2012. These 8 new Warsaw routes will deliver 700,000 passengers p.a. and create up to 700 local jobs at Modlin Airport.
Ryanair challenges God in new court case
Ryanair has gone to the European Court of Justice in Strasbourg to challenge a ruling which states airlines should compensate passengers for ‘Acts of God’ which result in cancellations. The Irish low-cost carrier believes the current EU 261 regulations are discriminating and unfit for purpose as they places an unlimited right to care on airlines.
Ryanair reports surge in profits as consumers seek out low-cost flights
Ryanair has reported a €15 million profit for the third quarter of the financial year, a turnaround on the €10 million loss reported for the same period last year. However, the low-cost airline revealed passenger numbers fell two per cent to 16.7 million for the three months ended December 31st.
Ryanair launches Birmingham-Budapest route
Low cost carrier Ryanair has announced a new route from Birmingham to Budapest from March 2012 which it claims will increase its annual traffic to over 1.3 million passengers at Birmingham Airport.
Ryanair to expand personnel as passenger numbers increase
Ryanair has confirmed it will create over 1,000 new jobs in 2012 for pilots, cabin crew, engineers and sales/marketing people, as it expands its fleet from 270 to 305 aircraft. The new plans will be based across Europe.

No frills airline Ryanair is introducing a €0.25 levy per passenger for all bookings made from Tuesday 17th January, to cover the costs of the EU’s new ETS tax.

Ryanair calls for breakup of DAA monopoly
Ryanair has called for the break-up of the DAA airport monopoly in Ireland as it publishes its 2011 traffic report for the three properties – Shannon, Dublin and Cork. Figures from Ryanair reveal a fourth consecutive year of traffic declines, down from 22.6 million passengers in 2010 to 22.1 million last year.
Ryanair raises peak time bag fees
Ryanair is planning to increase the cost of luggage checked in during peak periods in a bid to discourage passengers from carrying too much baggage on board.
