A train derailment at Bletchley has caused havoc with long-distance passengers seeking to reach London Euston station this morning. Tens of thousands of passengers from Scotland and north of England are believed to be affected, following the derailment of a freight train on the West Coast main line earlier.

The condition of two Japanese holidaymakers who were critically injured when a tourist train derailed in the Alps is reported to be improving. One Japanese woman was killed and about 42 people injured when several carriages of the Glacier Express travelling between the ski resorts of Zermatt and St Moritz overturned.
