Qatar Airways has launched its latest payment feature - Apple Pay - becoming the first Gulf carrier to offer the revolutionary ‘mobile wallet’ solution across all 12 countries where Apple Pay is available. Available on any iOS compatible device, Apple Pay allows travellers to conveniently and securely book their next journey on Qatar Airways across the airline’s global network with the touch of a finger.
Qatar Airways launches digital membership card
Qatar Airways has officially launched a digital membership card for its Privilege Club members, providing them with a more convenient option to redeem Qmiles when travelling across the airline’s global network. Available to all Privilege Club membership tiers – Burgundy, Silver, Gold and Platinum – the new digital membership card provides travellers with the same level of service as the physical card using their smart phones or tablets.
Qatar Airways boosts capacity on Cape Town, South Africa, flights
Qatar Airways has increased daily capacity to the popular family holiday destination Cape Town, with the introduction of a Boeing 777 serving the route from this month. This means an additional 158 seats per day from Doha to Cape Town for passengers looking to enjoy South Africa’s holiday season.
Qatar Airways inks code-share deal with Air Botswana
Qatar Airways is signing a code-share partnership with Air Botswana, offering Qatar Airways travellers enhanced access to three key destinations in Botswana, Africa. The partnership with Air Botswana, the national airline of Botswana, will provide Qatar Airways passengers with connections to the Botswana cities of Gaborone, Francistown and Maun via Qatar Airways’ South Africa gateway Johannesburg.
Hamad International welcomes fleet of Audi luxury cars
Hamad International Airport has welcomed the brand-new fleet of Audi luxury cars that will be utilised to shuttle VIPs. The premium fleet includes the Audi Q7, RS 6 Avant and A8 L. Qatar Airways chief executive, Akbar Al Baker, said: “At HIA we have always been keen on providing our passengers with the ultimate experience of traveling in comfort.”
Qatar Tourism Authority reveals new transit visa scheme
Qatar Tourism Authority has announced that a new transit visa scheme, which allows passengers with layovers of five hours or more in Hamad International Airport to request a complimentary transit visa, has gone into effect. The new system will allow transiting passengers of all nationalities to enter Qatar for up to 96 hours in between flights.
Qatar Airways Airbus A350 touches down at London Heathrow
Qatar Airways’ first daily regularly-scheduled Airbus A350 service to London Heathrow arrived in the United Kingdom earlier, as the airline introduced the state-of-the-art aircraft on the route. The aircraft joins the airline’s Airbus A380, Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 aircraft currently operating the route.
Hamad International Airport to launch new train service
Hamad International Airport has announced that its dual Passenger Trains inside the airport terminal will begin operations from tomorrow. The trains were officially inaugurated by Qatar Airways group chief executive Akbar Al Baker and Badr Mohammed Al Meer, chief operating officer of Hamad International Airport, in the presence of dignitaries from the ministry of transport and communications and members of the press.
Qatar Airways expands British Airways codeshare deal
Qatar Airways has expanded its code-share agreement with British Airways, which will provide travellers with a wider choice of flights and an enhanced network. With the launch of British Airways’ non-stop service between London and Doha, travellers will benefit from seven daily flights from Heathrow, improving connectivity onto each airline’s network.
Qatar Airways adds Seychelles to global network
Qatar Airways will provide holidaymakers with increased access to the idyllic white sand beaches and turquoise waters of the Seychelles with daily flights via Doha starting on December 12th. Qatar Airways Group chief executive Akbar Al Baker said: “Over recent years Qatar Airways has seen significant growth, expanding its worldwide footprint to provide more opportunities for global leisure travellers to premium destinations such as the Seychelles.”
Qatar Airways launches new services to Helsinki, Finland
The Finnish capital of Helsinki welcomed the first Qatar Airways flight from Doha, inaugurating the new daily service that will connect Helsinki to more than 150 destinations worldwide. Qatar Airways’ Airbus A320, which will operate the route, has a two-class configuration with 12 seats in Business Class and 120 seats in Economy Class.
Qatar Airways signs $11.7bn order with Boeing
Boeing and Qatar Airways announced an order for 30 787-9 Dreamliners and 10 777-300ERs, valued at $11.7 billion at list prices. The airline also signed a letter of intent for up to 60 737 MAX 8s, valued at $6.9 billion at list prices. The announcement builds on Qatar Airways’ current fleet of 84 Boeing aircraft, a combination of 787s and 777s, all delivered over the last nine years.
