Norwegian carried more than 2.6 million passengers in April, an increase of 15 per cent compared to the same month last year. The figures are positively influenced by Easter traffic.

Norwegian will launch a new route from London Gatwick to Singapore this winter as the airline’s growing low-cost long-haul UK network expands into Asia for the first time. From September, Norwegian will operate four weekly flights, increasing to five in the winter, from London Gatwick to Singapore Changi Airport.

Bjørn Kjos, chief executive of low-cost carrier Norwegian Air, has urged rivals to join the carrier in the low-cost transatlantic market. “I hope some of our competitors make it in this market,” he said, “they are creating demand, bringing in passengers who could not afford to fly before.”

Norwegian carried close to 2.1 million passengers in February, an increase of 12 per cent compared to the same month last year. The growth is primarily driven by a 53 per cent growth in the company’s intercontinental traffic.

Norwegian has announced that pioneering pilot Amy Johnson will become its second British tail fin hero, with the renowned pilot’s portrait set to appear on two Norwegian aircraft later this year. The airline has honoured iconic figures on the tails of its aircraft, and already has more than 80 tail fin heroes featuring personalities who symbolise the spirit of Norwegian through innovation, challenging the norm, and inspiring others.

Almost 700, 000 UK passengers have now joined the Norwegian Reward programme. Low-cost airline Norwegian has reached a milestone for its fast-growing loyalty programme as Norwegian Reward has now attracted five million members.
