Marriott changes tack on Wi-Fi blocking
Hotel giant Marriott International has bowed to demand from guests and confirmed it will no longer block personal Wi-Fi kits. Marriott had previously claimed it would block devices in conference facilities, arguing it was within its rights to do so on security grounds.
Marriott International expands Residence Inn footprint in Middle East
Marriott International is both responding to, and boosting the Middle East and Africa region’s growing extended-stay hospitality sector by opening two new Residence Inn properties in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. According to the hotel company, the openings are in response to increased demand, highlighted by a 13 per cent rise in year on year RevPAR rates within its own extended stay-portfolio, as well as increased demand from the region’s Gen Y demographic.
Kochi Marriott Hotel launches in Kerala
Marriott International has opened the Kochi Marriott Hotel, its fifth hotel under the company’s flagship Marriott Hotels brand in India. This will be the second Marriott International property in the Kochi city and is located amidst the Lulu Mall campus, one of the largest malls in the country. Fairfield by Marriott set to open in El Salvador in 2016
Marriott International is planning to open a 130 room Fairfield by Marriott in El Salvador. The 130-room property, scheduled to open in 2016, will feature a modern design, a casual dining restaurant, meeting space and a state of the art fitness center.

Marriott plans third hotel in Ecuador
Marriott Hotels has revealed plans to open the 202-room Marriott Hotel in Guayaquil in 2016. The Guayaquil Marriott will be the group’s third property in Ecuador and is being developed by Hotecapsa, overseen by Angel Sanchez.
New lifestyle brands appointment for Marriott International
Marriott International has appointment Toni Stoeckl to vice president of lifestyle brands including global responsibility for Renaissance Hotels, AC Hotels by Marriott and Moxy Hotels. Stoeckl previously served as vice president for the Renaissance Hotels brand.
JW Marriott opens in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

JW Marriott Marquis Dubai adds mobile check in
The JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai is launching the Marriott Mobile Check-In and Check-Out service which allows visitors to download a mobile application and have their room key waiting for them on arrival. The application enables Marriott Rewards members to receive push notifications on their Apple iPhones or Android devices after 16:00 of the day before their arrival alerting them they can check-in.
JW Marriott Marquis Dubai sees strong growth in arrivals
Boosting the UAE’s ability to cater to the business and leisure traveller, the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai has announced its first half year results. Having grown its inventory by 86 per cent since March 2014, the hotel has been able increase its RevPAR by 7.2 per cent and occupancy by 9.5 per cent - an impressive achievement given the increasing supply of hotels on to the market.
