JW Marriott Marquis Dubai welcomes Tower 2
After celebrating unprecedented occupancy rates for Tower 1 during its inaugural year, the second tower of the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai has officially opened offering an additional 294 luxurious rooms, bringing the total room count to 1,098. Once fully operational by the end of 2014 Tower 2 will comprise of 804 suites and rooms, bringing the total available suites and rooms to 1,608.

Tokyo Marriott Hotel opens in Japan
Marriott International has announced the opening of the Tokyo Marriott Hotel on a hilltop address known locally as Gotenyama. This represents the global hospitality company’s 12th hotel in Japan, and the third under its flagship Marriott Hotels brand, which comprises 500 properties in nearly 60 countries.
Marriott expands global portfolio with Houston property
RIDA Development Corporation in conjunction with the Houston First Corporation will develop a 1,000-room Marriott Marquis in the heart of Houston. The hotel, which will have over 100,000 square feet of meeting space, will be across the street and connected via skyway to the Houston Convention Centre. It is scheduled to break ground in 2014 and open in 2016.

Marriott acquires South Africa’s Protea Hotels
Marriott International has signed a letter of intent to acquire Protea Hotels’ brands and its management business that operates or franchises 116 hotels across three brands with 10,184 rooms in South Africa and six other sub-Saharan African countries. The transaction would nearly double Marriott’s distribution in Africa to more than 23,000 rooms, and would also provide Marriott with a proven operational platform and leadership team to accelerate Marriott’s expansion plans and solidify its leadership position in the dynamic and growing African hotel market.
