721,661 passengers used London Southend Airport in the year to the end of February 2013. That beats the previous record of 692,000 passengers using the airport over a 12 month period which was set back in 1967, when it was the third busiest airport in the UK (second only to Heathrow and Manchester).

Work on an extension to the terminal at London Southend Airport that will enable more than three hundred additional new, local jobs to be created will get underway in early November. While the third runway at London Heathrow still looks unlikely in the near future, London Southend Airport is doing its part in easing aviation capacity constraints in the south-east of England. A proposed extension to the new terminal at the airport has been given the go-ahead by Rochford Council, creating 300 jobs in the area.
