The Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corp. of Japan, a quasi-governmental turnaround agency currently working on the wide ranging financial problems at Japan Airlines Corp. revealed the bankruptcy proposal.

JAL shares plunge further

Shares in Japan Airlines fell a further 80% today during trading in Japan following a 45% drop yesterday (Tuesday 12) as bankruptcy looks inevitable. The stricken carrier’s shares are almost worthless at 7Yen after the Japanese Government indicated that it would allow the flag carrier to slip into administration as soon as Tuesday (January 19).

JAL Keeps aircraft interiors cool with closed shades

Japan Airlines (JAL) will implement a “Shades Closed Exercise” across 17 domestic airports in Japan and 5 airports overseas, where window shades of parked aircraft will be shut in order to block out the sunlight to keep temperatures in the interior from rising. By doing so, the amount of air conditioning required in the cabin prior to boarding and flight will be significantly reduced, which in turn can reduce the amount of energy consumed and carbon dioxide (CO2) gas emitted.

British Airways has joined American Airlines and Qantas to try and save Japan Airlines from bankruptcy. The move follows news that Delta Airlines was also looking to inject cash into the ailing carrier and by doing so force it to exit the Oneworld Alliance, of which BA is a member.
