General Electric selected to power Iberia A330 planes
International Airlines Group has selected General Electric CF6-80E1 engines to power the eight Airbus A330 aircraft it currently has on order. According to carrier, the CF6-80E1 engines incorporate the latest technology with improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions and a longer operating life.
Iberia and airberlin sign code share agreement
Iberia’s code will go on several airberlin routes in Germany and to other central and northern European destinations, and airberlin’s code will be used on Iberia flights to Germany and Switzerland.
Iberia launches Barcelona - Sao Paulo route
Iberia has made make its maiden non-stop flight between Barcelona-El Prat and São Paulo-Guarulhos, with 100% seat occupancy. The company expects a passenger load factor higher than 90% throughout 2011.
Baby born on Iberia Malabo-Madrid flight
A baby was born on Iberia’s IB3721 flight from Malabo in Equatorial Guinea to Madrid at 03:30 h., Spanish time, a little more than two hours after take-off in the West African country, a former Spanish colony.
Iberia named official and preferred airline for Spanish Football Federation
Iberia and the Real Federation Española de Fútbol (Royal Spanish Football Federation) have signed a trade agreement under which the Spanish airline is designated the Federation’s official and preferred airline until the end of 2014.
Iberia launches Madrid-Rabat flight
On July 1 Iberia will launch twice-weekly direct flights between Madrid and Rabat. It will be the only non-stop air link between the two capitals directly, and will make Rabat the Spanish airline group’s fourth destination in Morocco, after Casablanca, Marrakesh, and Tangier.
IAG warns over rising fuel despite strong revenue gains
International Airlines Group, the company formed from the merger of British Airways and Iberia, has become the latest carrier to warned that high oil prices could cost it an additional €100m this year, whilst the Japan earthquake and Arabic uprisings have caused a similar dent. However its quarterly figures were otherwise solid with losses narrowing to €47m, down from €273m a year ago.
