AHG eyes £1.4bn debt restructure

The Alterntive Hotel Group, the chain behind some of Britain’s most prestigious hotels including Cameron House in Scotland and the De Vere chain, is entering talks with its lender Lloyds about restructuring its £1.4 billion debt due to concerns it may be unable to meets the repayment terms.

London’s Trocadero centre is to be turned into 500-room pod hotel offering budget rooms in the heart of town. The “Piccadilly Hotel” would be modelled on the Pod Hotel in New York. The aim would be to “offer a boutique experience at a no-frills price”, whilst also rejuvenating the flagging landmark building.

One of the world’s richest dynasties is planning to float the Hyatt hotel chain in a bid to raise cash as travellers cut back sharply on luxury spending in the downturn. The secretive Pritzker family of Chicago hopes to raise as much as $1.15 billion (£685 million) in an IPO.
