United Airlines operates first flights into Heathrow Terminal 2
United Airlines today became the first airline to operate a flight at London Heathrow Airport’s new Terminal 2: The Queen’s Terminal. Flight UA958 from Chicago O’Hare, a Boeing 767-300 with 178 customers and a crew of 11 on board, arrived at gate B38 at 05:49 local time, six minutes ahead of schedule.
Star Alliance moves into Terminal 2 at London Heathrow
The new Terminal 2 – the home of Star Alliance at Heathrow – threw open its doors to welcome its first passengers this morning, marking the start of a new travel experience for the 12 million Star Alliance passengers who pass through this leading UK airport every year. Star Alliance member airline United is the first to move in to the new facility, known as Terminal 2 | the Queen’s Terminal for her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
London Heathrow welcomes passengers to new Terminal 2
The first flights have begun to arrive at Heathrow’s new Terminal 2; almost 60 years after the original Terminal 2 opened as the airport’s first passenger terminal in 1955. United Airlines was the first airline to move into the terminal and will operate 17 arriving and 17 departing flights for nearly 6,000 passengers today.

A total of 6.2 million passengers passed through Heathrow in April 2014, up 6.7 per cent on the month when compared to last year. Taking into account the Easter timing change from 2013, underlying growth was 1.9 per cent.
Holland-Kaye takes chief executive role at Heathrow
John Holland-Kaye, currently Heathrow’s development director, will become the company’s new chief executive officer with effect from July 1st 2014. As development director, he has been responsible for delivering the £1 billion annual investment in transforming Heathrow, including the new Terminal 2: The Queen’s Terminal, which will open to passengers in June.
NATS tries new route to reduce Heathrow stacking
A new operational procedure to cut the amount of time aircraft circle in ‘holding stacks’ at London Heathrow Airport has begun. Traditionally NATS, the UK’s air traffic service provider, has only been able to influence an arriving aircraft’s approach to Heathrow once it enters UK airspace - sometimes only 80 miles from the airport.
Matthews to exit Heathrow after Terminal 2 opening
Colin Matthews has confirmed he will be standing down as chief executive of Heathrow later this year. Matthews joined Heathrow in March 2008 and under his leadership the proportion of passengers rating their journey through Heathrow as good or excellent has increased from less than 50 per cent to more than 75 per cent.
United Airlines prepares for Heathrow Terminal 2 opening
United Airlines customers using London Heathrow Airport will enjoy improved services and amenities with the move of the airline’s operations to the airport’s new Terminal 2, The Queen’s Terminal, on June 4th, 2014. From that date, United flights at Heathrow – currently split between Terminals 1 and 4 – will be “under one roof” for the first time since the United-Continental merger in 2010.

Rail boost for London Heathrow Airport
Passengers and businesses from the Thames Valley to the West Country and Wales are to receive a huge boost to their transport links, after Network Rail announced plans for a preferred route for a new rail line from the Great Western Main Line with the UK’s only hub airport, Heathrow. The Great Western Main Line currently runs from Swansea, through Cardiff, before going on to Reading and London Paddington.
