Heathrow signs on to Weibo to engage Chinese travellers
In a first for UK airports, Heathrow has today launched its presence on Weibo, the social media platform used by over 600 million people across the world. Commonly referred to as the ‘Chinese Twitter’, Weibo is a microblogging website which allows people to post real-time messages of up to 140 Chinese characters.
Heathrow offers latest concessions in pursuit of expansion
Heathrow has announced it will meet and, in most cases, seek to exceed the conditions set out in the UK Airports Commission’s recommendation for expansion. In July last year, the independent Airports Commission recommended expanding Heathrow, after a three year, £20 million study into the best option for maintaining the UK’s global aviation hub status.
Heathrow records latest rise in passenger numbers in early 2016
Some 16.8 million passengers passed through Heathrow Airport in London first three months of 2016, up 2.6 per cent. At the same time, Garuda Indonesia has become the latest airline to move its London operations from Gatwick to Heathrow – boosting British businesses with increased ties to a fast-growing economy.
Passenger numbers continue to rise at London Heathrow
Heathrow Airport in London welcomed a record 6.1 million passengers in March, up 2.5 per cent on March 2015. Larger, quieter, fuller aircraft continued to be a driver for growth in passenger volumes. Fast-growing emerging markets continued to contribute increased passenger volumes, including to China (which was up 12 per cent), Mexico (up six per cent), India (up four per cent) and the Middle East, which was up nine per cent as carriers continued to benefit from new aircraft including A380s.
Heathrow calls for faster delivery of Western Rail Access
Responding to Network Rail’s consultation on Western Rail Link, Heathrow has restated its support for the project and has called for Network Rail and the government to accelerate the timeline for this project so its benefits can be delivered sooner. Western Rail Link will provide a vital service, directly connecting passengers and businesses from the west and south west to the UK’s only hub airport.
Heathrow claims expansion ‘ready to go’ despite political uncertainty
Heathrow has announced the four winning bidders to assist in expanding the airport, should permission be granted by the UK government. Following a competitive process Arup, CH2M, MACE and Turner & Townsend have been chosen to work alongside Heathrow Airport to deliver Heathrow’s expansion as partners in the Programme Client.

Heathrow Airport has today announced that Lord Paul Deighton will succeed Sir Nigel Rudd as chairman of the board when he steps down later this year. London Heathrow reaches 75 million passengers in 2015
More people than ever chose London Heathrow Airport in 2105, with the location welcoming 75 million passengers in 2015. The figure is a two per cent increase on 2014. The airport also recorded strong financial performance in 2015, with revenue of £2,765 million, up 2.7 per cent, and EBITDA of £1,605 million, up three per cent.
Aviation leaders from across UK offer support to EU membership
Aviation leaders in the United Kingdom have expressed support for Britain’s continued membership of the European Union. As prime minister David Cameron called a referendum on the country’s place in Europe, Heathrow chief executive John Holland-Kaye led calls for Britain to stay in the union. Heathrow offers support to proposed Western Rail Link
Heathrow is urging supporters of Network Rail’s proposed Western Rail Link to make their views heard in a public consultation. The rail link is an important part of the airport’s plans to ensure that even if the airport were to expand, there would be no more airport-related vehicles on the road in 2030 compared to today. Western Rail Link has the potential to remove up to one million car journeys from local roads, and save 30 million road miles of carbon emissions in the first year of service alone.
British Airways overhauls First lounge at Heathrow Terminal 5
A refresh to British Airway’s First lounge at Terminal 5 is making for a more comfortable and relaxing start to flights for some of the airline’s top premium customers. The refurbishment to the airline’s luxurious First lounge, which comfortably seats British Airways’ premium travellers, has brought a new sparkle to eligible First customers and Gold Executive Club members.
Korean Air to bring A380 to Seoul-London route in March
Korean Air has confirmed that after almost five years since it introduced the A380 aircraft to its fleet, the double-decker will come into service on the Seoul Incheon-London Heathrow route. The A380 daily flight will commence with the start of the summer service on March 27th, with the flight leaving Seoul at 13:25 arriving at Heathrow’s terminal four at 17:25.
