Hot on the back of its victory at World Travel Awards 2011 Middle East Ceremony, Thai-based hospitality group Anantara has scored another coup with news that its Bali property Seminyak Resort & Spa has achieved Green Globe Certification.
The Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Brussels, has become the first hotel in the city to gain the Green Key for its huge environmental efforts.
After the success of its herb garden, the Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta hotel built a greenhouse earlier this year to grow its own produce. Guests will be able to enjoy the “fruits” of this new effort at Vidalia’s Restaurant, beginning this fall. The first harvest will feature striped heirloom tomatoes, seven chili varieties, zucchini, asparagus, cucumbers and fresh herbs and will be ready by fall. The hotel also plans to implement a composting program by year-end.
The Courtyard Charleston/Summerville in South Carolina will be the first hotel built using Marriott International’s green hotel prototype, in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC.) This will dramatically accelerate the company’s goal to have 300 LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) hotels by 2015.
