Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta Hotel Builds New Greenhouse to Grow Fresh Produce
After the success of its herb garden, the Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta hotel built a greenhouse earlier this year to grow its own produce. Guests will be able to enjoy the “fruits” of this new effort at Vidalia’s Restaurant, beginning this fall. The first harvest will feature striped heirloom tomatoes, seven chili varieties, zucchini, asparagus, cucumbers and fresh herbs and will be ready by fall. The hotel also plans to implement a composting program by year-end.
Marriott Leads the Industry with the First LEED Green Hotel Prototype
The Courtyard Charleston/Summerville in South Carolina will be the first hotel built using Marriott International’s green hotel prototype, in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC.) This will dramatically accelerate the company’s goal to have 300 LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) hotels by 2015.
