fastjet has signed two agreements with partners in the travel industry, marking the launch of ancillary products on fastjet.com. The first, with Rentalcars.com parent company, TravelJigsaw, will offer low-cost car hire in Africa through fastjet.com, and the second will deliver competitively-priced online parking services in South Africa in partnership with Looking4Parking.com.

fastjet has announced the appointment of Jimmy Kibati as general Mmanager, East Africa. Kibati joins from Kenya Airways where he is currently acting commercial director. Working alongside the fastjet management team, he will be responsible for leading the airline’s expansion in East Africa.

fastjet has announced its passenger statistics for the month of January 2014, carrying 31,241 passengers in Tanzania and achieving a load factor of 60 per cent. The average yield per passenger was $88, compared to $46 in January 2013.

fastjet has announced the first fastjet flight between Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and Lusaka in Zambia was successfully completed. The event marks the launch of the low-cost airline’s second international route in Africa.

fastjet has said its integration with Hahn Air Systems’ e-alliance product was successfully completed and fastjet flights are now accessible through all key Global Distribution Systems, including Amadeus, Sabre and Travelport. Following the successful integration, over 91,000 travel agents and tour operators worldwide can now access the entire fastjet network, either via the airline’s dedicated agent portal or through a GDS of their choice.

The board see the business and political environment in Zambia as very progressive and fastjet’s discussions to date with the Zambian government, Tourist Board and other stakeholders have been very positive, said a statement.

fastjet has announced it is increasing capacity on the newly launched Dar es Salaam to Mbeya (Songwe) route in response to very high demand from its customers. From November 24th a Sunday flight will be added to the existing timetable, and from December 17th fastjet will be operating an additional three flights per week, bringing the total number of flights per week between the two cities to seven.
