Delta Air Lines has recorded a net loss of $318 million for the March 2011 quarter. Driven by the $610 million impact of 30 per cent higher fuel prices, Delta’s net loss was $128 million worse than the March 2010 quarter, excluding special items.

Virgin Atlantic has fuelled speculation it is about to announce a merger following confirmation the airline has received enquires from a number of suitors. In a statement the transatlantic airline said it has been contacted by a number of other companies since it appointed Deutsche Bank at the beginning of November to assess the aviation industry and seek growth opportunities.

Delta Air Lines has appointed Nicolas Ferri to the newly created position of vice president – Latin America and the Caribbean. Ferri will take up the role on January 1st, 2011, and will report to Delta president Ed Bastian.

A Delta Air Lines passenger jet with 206 passengers on board has been forced to make an emergency landing in New York following an onboard fire. The Boeing 767 was bound for Moscow when it was forced to return to John F Kennedy International Airport last night.

Flight attendants at Northwest Airlines have voted to end union representation after 63-years following the completion of a merger with Delta Air Lines. Some 7,000 crew will be impacted by the change, after the Association of Flight Attendants failed to secure a majority in favour of continued representation.
