Costa Rica sees record tourism figures for 2015

Last year proved to be a record year for inbound tourism to Costa Rica with revenue from tourism up by nine per cent - an increase of approximately three times that of the country’s GDP which was up by 2.8 per cent. International tourist numbers hit an all-time high, with 2,665,608 visitors arriving in 2015 through all ports of entry - an increase of 5.5 per cent on 2014.

Starting on May 4th next year, British Airways will offer nonstop flights between Gatwick and the Costa Rican capital of San Jose. A powerful 6.6 magnitude earthquake has struck the western coast of Costa Rica, according to reports from the United States Geological Survey. The quake was centred about 38 miles south of Liberia, Costa Rica, at a depth of 11.8 miles.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has updated its travel advice for Costa Rica following an increase in the number of missing tourists reported in the country. A total of eight foreigners - including one British national – are presently believed to have gone missing in the last two years, with some related to criminal activity.
