Silk Way builds Azerbaijani cargo capacity with Boeing deal

Boeing and Silk Way Airlines, a cargo carrier based in Baku, Azerbaijan, have announced an order for two Boeing 747-8 Freighters valued at $704 million at current list prices. “Silk Way Airlines’ vision is to be a successful and profitable cargo operator by investing in its fleet and services and continuing to increase its regional and international footprint,” said Zaur Akhundov, president, SW Holding, parent company of Silk Way Airlines.

Boeing and Korean Air have announced the airline has agreed to purchase five 747-8 Intercontinental airplanes and six 777-300ER (Extended Range) jetliners, valued at approximately $3.6 billion at current list prices. Boeing will work with Korean Air to finalise the order, at which time the order will be posted to Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries website.

Boeing and Qatar Airways have announced agreements for nine Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) airplanes at the 2013 Paris Air Show. The agreements include a firm order for two airplanes previously attributed to an unidentified customer on Boeing Commercial Airplanes Orders and Deliveries website, plus a commitment for an additional seven airplanes.

A pair of superefficient 787 Dreamliners will be the featured Boeing products on display at the Paris Air Show, which begins June 17 at the Le Bourget exhibition center. One 787 will perform daily flying displays from Monday through Friday, while the other – a Qatar Airways 787 – will be on static display. The Boeing ScanEagle unmanned aircraft system will appear as part of the U.S. Corral display throughout the show.

Boeing has reported first-quarter core earnings per share increased 24 per cent to $1.73, driven by strong performance across the company’s businesses. First-quarter 2013 results included the expected benefit of $0.19 per share for the 2012 research and development tax credit; first-quarter 2012 included a benefit of $0.11 per share related to a favourable court judgment on satellite litigation.
