bmi expands Virgin codeshare
bmi has added nine new destinations to its growing codeshare route network from London Heathrow after expanding its codeshare agreement with Virgin Atlantic. The new codeshare arrangements cover routes between the USA and bmi’s growing Middle East and Russia and CIS network.
Bmi aims to start Iraq service
Bmi is endeavouring to start a scheduled service between the UK and Bagdad. The carrier, which already operates a number of routes to the Middle East, has said it has met with Iraqi government officials to get the ball rolling.The meeting took place as over 300 delegates with Iraqi business interests met at a forum in London attended by the Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Malikiand and Peter Mandleson, Secretary of State for Business and Enterprise, to discuss investment in Iraq.
BMI to implement sweeping route cuts
BMI is to cut dozens of services from Heathrow in a bid to stem soaring costs. The airline, which is the second largest operator at Heathrow, is scrapping part of its UK domestic network, as well as services to continental Europe.Lufthansa, which is due to complete its takeover of a majority 80 per cent stake in BMI, is thought to be stepping up the pressure for the cuts as both leisure and business traffic take a hit.
Bmi pilots threaten legal action over pay
Pilots at Bmi are voting on a motion of no confidence in chief executive Nigel Turner following a row over pay.The British Airline Pilots Association has accused Bmi of dipping into the bank accounts of pilots given pay increases, and is now threatening legal action.It accuses the company of taking back £100,000 in total, an average of £250 each from around 400 pilots.
BMI launches Kiev routes
BMI is launching a new service from Heathrow to Kiev. The route will operate five times a week to the Ukrainian capital and flights will depart from Terminal 1.
