Etihad Airways has confirmed it will increase its stake in airberlin to 29.21 per cent, becoming the largest single shareholder in the carrier. Etihad Airways is considered the World’s Leading Airline by the prestigious World Travel Awards.

This year airberlin is again offering its popular “Flying home for Christmas” special from 15th to 17th November. The special offer is primarily aimed at passengers with families in a different city, but who would still like to spend Christmas with their loved ones.

On 25th October 2011, airberlin celebrates the first anniversary of the Dubai-Berlin route. For one year, airberlin has been the only airline connecting the German capital and the Arab Emirate via a non-stop flight.

In July 2011, airberlin welcomed 3,809,401 guests on board, i.e. 2.9 percent more than in the corresponding month of the previous year (July 2010: 3,700,971 passengers). Fleet capacity utilization for July increased by 3.3 percentage points, i.e. from 81.2 to 84.5 percent. As compared to July 2010, capacity was reduced by 1.1 percent.

Iberia’s code will go on several airberlin routes in Germany and to other central and northern European destinations, and airberlin’s code will be used on Iberia flights to Germany and Switzerland.

Amadeus, a leading travel technology partner and transaction processor for the global travel and tourism industry and airberlin, Germany’s second largest airline, have inked a multiyear IT contract to implement the full suite of Amadeus Altéa, the company’s Customer Management System.
