The National Investor has confirmed it will invest US$50 million into the Mafraq Hotel in Abu Dhabi, expanding the property from 121 to 250 rooms. TNI also said the hotel will be rebranded and managed in house, a first for the group.
Legendary Hollywood hotel brand Biltmore - favourite of Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty - is to open an outpost in Abu Dhabi. Owners Millennium & Copthorne, said the property would open in exclusive Al Bateen district of fast-growing emirate by 2013.
The number of guests staying in hotels and hotel apartments in Abu Dhabi in the first 10 months of this year has risen on the same period in 2009. The announcement comes in the same month Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority picked up “World’s Leading Tourist Board” at the 2010 World Travel Awards.
Abu Dhabi enjoyed a 16 percent rise in the number guests staying in the emirate’s 116 licensed hotels and hotel apartments last month, compared to July 2009.
Abu Dhabi has bucked the global tourism downturn by reporting a 2 percent rise in hotel guest numbers last year, with guest stays in the final quarter grew by 16 percent year-on year.
