Train managers at Eurostar are to walk out on strike for seven days as part of a long-running dispute over work-life balance at the train operator. Four days of strike action will being at 00:01 Friday, lasting until 23:59 hours on Monday. A further three days of strike action will begin at 00:01 on Saturday August 27th, ending at 23:59 on Monday, August 29th.

Industrial action is affecting services on Southern trains, with RMT Union members beginning strike action. This walkout is expected to last five days, with Southern warning all trains will be hit until end of service on Friday. No Southern trains will run on routes between Clapham Junction-Milton Keynes Central; Dorking-Horsham; Oxted-Uckfield; and others.

Trainline has appointed Sophie Krishnan as general manager, business and ancillaries. Krishnan will oversee Trainline for Business and will be responsible for growing ancillary. She will report to chief executive, Clare Gilmartin. Krishnan joins Trainline from Egencia, Expedia’s business travel arm where she worked for five years.

Eurostar has reported a challenging second quarter of 2016, as business demand softened in the run-up to the EU referendum and leisure traffic continued to be impacted by the Brussels terrorist attacks. Uncertainty over the UK’s future relationship with Europe has resulted in a drop in business travel, while on the leisure market there has been a continued slowdown in traffic from international markets, the USA and Japan in particular.
