World Travel Market 2016: UNWTO launches Phoenicians tourism route

An integral component of Mediterranean trade and culture, the Phoenicians’ Route links 18 countries with a common heritage. With the aim of revitalising this itinerary as a tourism route, the World Tourism Organisation, ministry of tourism of Lebanon and Council of Europe launched the Phoenicians’ Route Cultural Tourism Programme, which integrates public and private sector, at World Travel Market in London.

The Egyptian Tourism Authority is predicting 2017 as a year of growth from the UK following the launch of a new flight between Heathrow and Luxor and consumer research showing a demand from British people looking for better value holidays in 2017. The Egyptian minister of tourism, Yehia Rashed, speaking at London’s World Travel Market said a tourism recovery strategy for Egypt was underway with major advertising and trade campaigns planned for the year ahead to raise awareness of the fact that Egypt is open for business.

World Travel Market 2016: Air Seychelles reveals major European expansion

Air Seychelles has announced a major fleet and network expansion that will see the airline introduce a second Airbus A330 aircraft, commence non-stop services to Düsseldorf (Germany) and Durban (South Africa), and significantly strengthen its existing regional network in early 2017. The airline plans to establish the air bridge between Seychelles and Germany on March 30th, 2017, by launching a twice-per-week service to Düsseldorf, in western Germany.

Destinations around the world welcomed 956 million international tourists between January and September 2016, according to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer. This is 34 million more than in the same period of 2015, a four per cent increase. Demand for international tourism remained robust in the first nine months of 2016, though growing at a somewhat more moderate pace.
