WTTC Global Summit 2016: Bangkok revealed as host for 2017 Global Summit

The World Travel & Tourism Council has revealed the annual Global Summit will be hosted by Bangkok, Thailand on April 26th-27th 2017. WTTC president David Scowsill said: “The WTTC Global Summit is the most influential tourism event of the year, bringing together hundreds of leaders from public sector organisations and private sector companies to discuss and tackle the most important issues in our sector."

World Travel & Tourism president David Scowsill has urged world leaders not to close borders in response to the growing threat of terrorism. Speaking at the start of the organisation’s annual Global Summit in Dallas, Texas, he said: “Closing borders and jeopardising the freedom to travel is not the answer to the current security concerns. World leaders need to stand together and act now, with the support of the tourism sector.”

The Holy City of Makkah is leading hotel development in Saudi Arabia with 24,133 rooms currently in the construction pipeline, according to a new report. Riyadh follows with 10,053 rooms and Jeddah with 6,980 rooms under development, with the majority of rooms forecast to open to the public over the next five years, says the new report by TopHotelProjects commissioned by The Hotel Show Saudi Arabia 2016.
