Vietnam Airlines sees sharp rise in pre-tax profits

Vietnam Airlines has announced total consolidated revenue of VND36 trillion for the six months to June 30th 2016. At the same time pre-tax profits are estimated at VND 1,600 billion, reaching nearly seven per cent of the target set for 2016. In the first six months of 2016, the aviation market in Vietnam by 27.2 per cent compared to the same period last year, with a 37 per cent increase in the domestic market.

Hawaiian Airlines to operate daytime Tokyo flights

Hawaiian Airlines has received tentative approval from the US department of transportation to shift its current daily flight between Honolulu and Tokyo's Haneda International Airport into a coveted daytime schedule. The new flights will begin on October 29th, 2016. The tentative award follows a DOT ruling in May granting Hawaiian a night-time slot pair to provide daily service between Haneda and Kona three times weekly and Haneda and Honolulu four times weekly.

A total of 35.7 million passengers used Heathrow in first six months of 2016, up 0.6 per cent from the same period of last year. At the same time, cargo volumes increased 1.7 per cent. John Holland-Kaye, chief executive officer of Heathrow, said: “As the UK’s biggest port, we are supporting businesses from every corner of Britain to get their products to global markets, with cargo volumes up by almost 2 per cent.”

South African Airways made history earlier when a plane going to Cape Town from Johannesburg became Africa’s first to fly on jet fuel made from tobacco plants. Boeing 737-800 flights on SAA and low-cost subsidiary Mango between Johannesburg and Cape Town were the first sustainable biofuel flights to take place on the African continent.
