Malaysia Airlines has launched rapid expansion into China. Malaysia Airlines’ chief executive Peter Bellew explained: “Malaysia Airlines plans to triple our Chinese business over the next five years. I see potential for direct flights to 20 Chinese cities from Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching by 2019."

The Lufthansa Group has launched a chatbot called Mildred, which searches for the cheapest flights within the next nine months. Users can narrow their search results to specific dates and booking classes and, when searching for an airfare on the Facebook Messenger app, users can use the full name of their departure and destination airports, the international airport codes or their home city as the starting point.

Donghai Airlines completes $1.32bn Boeing Dreamliner order

Boeing and Donghai Airlines have announced the finalisation of an order for five 787-9 Dreamliners, valued at $1.32 billion at current list prices. Shenzhen-based Donghai Airlines announced its intent to order 25 737 MAX 8s and five 787-9 Dreamliners in July at the Farnborough International Airshow.

World Travel Market 2016: Oman Air to launch Manchester services in early 2017

Oman Air has announced the launch of its new daily flight from Manchester to Muscat starting May 1st, 2017; the latest move in the airline’s ambitious and dynamic programme of fleet and network expansion. The daily service to Oman Air’s hub in Muscat will take seven and a half hours and will be operated by a Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner and is in addition to the double daily flight from London Heathrow, making Manchester the only airport outside of London to have direct flights to Muscat.

World Travel Market 2016: Air Seychelles reveals major European expansion

Air Seychelles has announced a major fleet and network expansion that will see the airline introduce a second Airbus A330 aircraft, commence non-stop services to Düsseldorf (Germany) and Durban (South Africa), and significantly strengthen its existing regional network in early 2017. The airline plans to establish the air bridge between Seychelles and Germany on March 30th, 2017, by launching a twice-per-week service to Düsseldorf, in western Germany.

easyJet launches Berlin service from Newcastle, UK

easyJet has started two new services from Newcastle International Airport to Berlin Schoenefeld Airport and Las Palmas Airport in Gran Canaria. The two new routes are expected to carry more than 36,000 passengers in the first year. The airline’s new route to Berlin Schoenefeld is the only direct scheduled flight between Newcastle and the German city, opening both up to more tourism and making connecting between the two easier than ever.
