World Travel Awards reveals global winners in Doha

World Travel Awards has held its Grand Final in Doha, Qatar, presenting over 100 awards across dozens of categories to leading brands from around the world.

A glittering line up of celebrities, entertainers, and business chiefs joined leaders from within the travel and tourism industry for the event, which was hosted by La Cigale Hotel.

Avis, Conrad Hotels, Marriot International, Etihad Airways, One & Only, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Sandals Resorts International, and Kuoni were some of the names to emerge victorious at the event.

World Travel Awards celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and is acknowledged across the globe as the ultimate travel accolade, celebrating those companies, organisations and brands that are pushing the boundaries of industry excellence in product and service.

This year the award for World’s Leading Hotel Brand went to Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts, while World’s Leading New Hotel went to JW Marriott Marquis Dubai.

Meanwhile, World’s Leading City Break Destination went to Paris, France, and World’s Leading Destination went to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and World’s Leading Culinary Destination was captured by Peru.

Marriott Hotels & Resorts to the title of World’s Leading Hotel Brand Website.

World Travel Awards president Graham Cooke said: “We are proud to have held these Awards in Doha, showing our continued support for innovative development of tourism in this region.

“The Grand Final is a very competitive evening for our World Travel Awards nominees from all over the world, and these particular winners continue to serve as an example of the most luxurious and innovative brands with unique hospitality products and services.

“Tonight’s recipients strive to set the highest possible bar to raise the standards of excellence in travel and tourism and they carry these accolades into 2014 with pride and passion.”

Voters from around the world selected Etihad Airways as World’s Leading Airline for the fifth consecutive year, while AirAsia collected World’s Leading Low Cost Airline.

In the tourism categories World’s Leading Tourist Board went to Incredible India with New Zealand scooping World’s Leading Tourist Website.

More specialist categories were represented with the award for World’s Leading Luxury Safari Company going to &Beyond and World’s Leading Golf Destination to Portugal.
