Police in the United Arab Emirates are searching for a woman they suspect gave birth to a baby, which she then strangled in a toilet cubicle at Dubai International Airport, before catching a flight out of the country.

The woman was identified using security camera footage after the baby’s body was discovered in a Dubai airport last week.

She allegedly cut the baby boy’s umbilical cord with her bare hands and strangled him with a cloth before dumping him in a rubbish bin in Terminal One.

The infant was discovered when a woman passenger informed one of the airport’s cleaners about a pool of blood in the bathroom.

The baby boy was still breathing but a rescue team and volunteers were unable to him.

Local media reported yesterday that authorities are seeking help from Interpol to locate and extradite the suspect, who is apparently an Ethiopian woman in her 30s.

If found, she will be charged with premeditated murder.

Giving birth outside of marriage is illegal in the Emirates.

It is unclear whether the woman was a Dubai resident. But police suspect she may have got pregnant illegally.
