Wizz Air, the largest low cost – low fare airline in Romania and in Central and Eastern Europe has been forced to cancel 10% and reschedule 75% of its winter timetable to/from Bucharest Baneasa Airport, owing to an airport decision to change the night curfew enforcement.

The restrictions mean that, with effect from 29 October, flights will not be permitted to operate between 22:00 and 06:00.
“Due to this restriction in Baneasa Airport, we have been forced to reschedule 75% and cancel 10% of our winter flights.

According to our estimates, the airport will lose some 40.000 departing Wizz Air passengers in the winter season. The new restriction will affect Wizz Air passengers most, as we have the greatest passenger traffic in Baneasa and in Romania. Wizz Air is one of the few companies that continues to grow and invest in Romania, but that strategy will need to be reconsidered given the restrictions in Baneasa airport and plans to further restrict operations next year” - said György Abrán, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air.

The numbers of services to London Luton and Madrid have been reduced and services to Larnaca and Alicante have been suspended for the winter season.

All Wizz Air passengers will be notified about the new schedule by e-mail or by telephone, according to the contact details they have entered in their reservation. Affected passengers will have the possibility to rebook their flights, use the equivalent amount on other Wizz Air flights/services or get a refund.

Wizz Air is disappointed that such a large number of customers will suffer changes in their travel plans at late notice due to this restriction and will do its best to minimize the inconveniences caused by the airport’s restrictions.
