Water Garden Sigiriya offers boost to Sri Lankan tourism

Water Garden Sigiriya offers boost to Sri Lankan tourism

Perowne International is thrilled to announce the addition of Water Garden Sigiriya to the group portfolio.

Opened in September 2016, Water Garden Sigiriya is located within Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle and holds prime position, overlooking the magnificent Sigiriya Rock.

Designed by Channa Baswatte, protégé of legendary Sri Lankan architect Sir Geoffrey Bawa, it is a contemporary boutique resort, where the historic art of water manipulation has been used to blend contemporary design with the lush greenery.

On arrival, the al fresco reception opens onto a panoramic view of the 35-acre resort, positioned in the shadow of Sigirya Rock.

Thirty secluded Villas (ranging from 950 sq ft Deluxe Villas to 2135 sq ft two bedroom Duplex Villas) blend seamlessly into the lush green landscape, most of which are appointed with a private veranda, pool and Jacuzzi and are connected through the waterways and natural flora.

The design concept draws on creative collaboration of local Sri Lankan artists including Ena de Silva’s legendary batik work, sculptures and an incredible chandelier, which hangs in the main restaurant designed by the renowned Laki Senanayake.

Paintings from artist Anup Vega are displayed throughout the interiors.

The villas are appointed with locally handcrafted products and hand woven textiles from Island Craft, a project helping local Sri Lankan communities to preserve their craft heritage.

The main restaurant serves up a menu of local and international cuisine.

An amply stocked bar overlooks an expansive infinity pool and is the perfect space to have a quiet moment and contemplate the surrounding landscape.

At the Water Garden Sigiriya Spa, highly trained Balinese therapists are on hand to administer a range of wellness and pampering treatments, using only the most natural herbs and oils.

There are a diverse range of activities and excursions on offer to explore the surrounding environment, bird watching, nature treks, cycling, archery, Yoga and guided safari tours.

Wildlife lovers will be drawn to the world’s largest Asian Elephant Gathering, which takes place from July to October at Minneriya National Park, a short 20 minute drive from the property.

Sigiriya Water Garden is the latest addition to the Union Resort & Spa hotel group, which includes The Blue Water Resort & Spa, Wadduwa.
