VietJetAir fined over impromptu onboard beauty pageant

Budget carrier VietJetAir has been fined by officials in Vietnam after hosting a bikini-clad beauty pageant onboard without the necessary authorisation.

State media reports the airline was fined 20 million dong (£611) for the Hawaiian-themed dance.

The incident took place on the inaugural flight between Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang.

Reports from Tuoi Tre newspaper state the airline was fined after it “violated local aviation regulations”.

A statement from VietJetAir said it had wanted to capture a “holiday atmosphere” onboard the flight.

“Once passengers stepped on board they were met by flight attendants dressed in beach holiday attire who performed a sexy Hawaii dance,” added the carrier.
