Valencia Tourism set to welcome F1 roadshow

Valencia Tourism is preparing to welcome Formula 1 to Spain later this month, with the European Grand Prix taking place from June 24th-26th.

Roads in the city will be closed for the motoring onslaught, with spectators watching from boats and harbour side locations as the city welcomes the big three; McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull back to their renowned street circuit.

Valencia’s street circuit is one of the longest tracks on the calendar and the fastest of the new street circuits.

However, it is the atmosphere of the city that the Formula 1 drivers and teams really enjoy.

Following this weekend’s action-packed Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal - where Jenson Button triumphed after five hours of coverage - many drivers will be looking ahead to the might of Valencia, hoping for better results.

The European Grand Prix has been held in Valencia for the past three years with Felipe Massa, Rubens Barichello and Sebastian Vettel triumphing in 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively.

This year all eyes are still on Vettel; though Valencians will surely be backing Spanish favourite, Fernando Alonso for a win in his home country.

Brit favourites Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have had mixed results in Valencia; with Lewis finishing 2nd for the past three years and Jenson finishing 3rd last year whilst also setting the fastest lap during the race.

Valencia is not only the European Capital of Sport for 2011, but also a leading cultural city-break and beach destination and an ideal location for Grand Prix tourists.

The track passes straight through the port and right along the beach and the city offers plenty to those who love the jet set lifestyle with great bars and restaurants. Try the Barrio del Carmen area for dinner and late night drinks after enjoying a drink at Malvarrosa Beach. There are also several Michelin starred restaurants in the city, which is the birthplace of the famous Spanish dish, paella.
