Union Pacific Railroad announces operating department appointments

Kurt Zalar has been appointed general superintendent-transportation services for the Fort Worth Service Unit, replacing Jeff Jones, who is retiring Jan. 1, 2012, after 40 years of service. Zalar will be responsible for the safe operation of trains on the more than 1,200 miles of track in Texas and southeast Oklahoma. He began his career with Union Pacific in track maintenance in 1994,  he then worked as a train dispatcher and held various operating positions, including manager-train operations, director-intermodal terminal operations and superintendent-transportation services for the Wichita Service Unit.  Most recently, Zalar was general superintendent-transportation services for the Denver Service Unit. He is a graduate of Utah State University.

Jay Everett has been promoted to general superintendent-transportation services for the Denver Service Unit, replacing Zalar. He will be responsible for the safe operation of trains on more than 1,700 miles of track in Colorado, Kansas, Wyoming and Utah.  Everett joined Union Pacific as a general supervisor in 1992.  He has held a number of operating positions, including senior manager-intermodal terminal operations, director-terminal operations, director-train management and superintendent-dispatching center. Most recently, Everett was director-transportation services in North Little Rock, Ark.  He is a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University.
