UK set to experience travel boost during Jubilee weekend

eRentals.co.uk is predicting a significant increase in travel activity during the Queen’s Jubilee bank holiday weekend, with the car hire specialist experiencing a considerable rise in car hire bookings in the UK and abroad, as tourists take advantage of the four-day break.

The Royal occasion is set to attract thousands of tourists looking to join in with celebrations across the UK, with many flocking to London to be at the heart of the celebrations. Since the start of the year, the capital has received 12.7 million trips which is the greatest influx of visitors since the beginning of the century*.

In contrast, thousands of British sun-seekers are looking to travel abroad in a bid to make the most of the extra bank holiday. The strengthening pound against the euro is also a contributing factor to UK residents booking breaks abroad.

Briony Fairbairn of eRentals.co.uk says: “We predict there is going to be a surge in travel to and from the UK over the Jubilee weekend and this is reflected in the trends of our car hire bookings.

“The combination of the bad weather we’ve been experiencing, a four-day weekend and the weakening Euro, has resulted in a rise in interest for many short-haul destinations and we expect a last-minute surge in bookings as we get closer to the Jubilee. Car hire enquiries for the bank holiday have also seen an increase for the UK due to the influx of visitors for the royal celebrations. The Jubilee weekend is only a few weeks away so we would advise anyone still looking to hire a car, whether in the UK or abroad, to book soon to ensure availability and to secure the lowest price.”
