Travelocity founder Terry Jones joins Luxury Link Travel Group

The Luxury Link Travel Group announced today that Terry Jones, founder of Travelocity, has been elected to the company’s board of directors. This appointment comes as the company celebrates its 14-year anniversary and now represents more than 1,000 active five-star and upscale hotels across its three luxury travel websites.

“Terry brings an incredible wealth of knowledge to Luxury Link, after founding and running one of the industry’s leading online travel agencies, along with his decades of work at Sabre,” said Drew Marich, CEO of the Luxury Link Travel Group. “With the Luxury Link Travel Group coming off a year of record revenue growth and strong profitability, having Terry join our team increases the momentum of the business. I’m looking forward to working with Terry and tapping into his insights as we continue to grow and expand on all fronts.”

“Luxury Link has established itself as a leading online travel company for sophisticated travelers. The luxury travel sector has significant growth potential and I’m excited to help the Luxury Link Travel Group find ways to take advantage of this opportunity given their leadership position,” said Terry Jones. “In addition, I think Luxury Link’s business model, combining exclusive travel experiences from hand-picked hotels, combined with a strong advertising revenue stream reaching an affluent demographic, is very unique. Luxury Link is well-positioned to capitalize on these strengths.”
Terry Jones is one of the originators of the online travel industry, having founded Travelocity.com in 1996 and led the company as president and CEO until 2002. His vision of how the Internet could drive more efficiency for both suppliers and consumers launched the growth of one of the largest sectors of online commerce today.

Before founding Travelocity, Jones served as chief information officer at Sabre, Inc. In his 24 years at Sabre, he held various executive positions including president of computer services, vice president of applications development and vice president of product development. Jones entered the travel industry in 1971 as a travel agent, and he served for five years as a vice president of Travel Advisors, a company specializing in business travel to Eastern Europe. In addition to Luxury Link, Jones currently serves on the board of directors of Kayak.com, Rearden Commerce and Smart Destinations, and is a special venture partner with General Catalyst Partners.

Luxury Link company Founder and Chairman of the Board James A. Kaplan also announces he will appoint Scott Potter, Managing Partner of San Francisco Equity Partners, as the new chairman of the Luxury Link Travel Group. Potter has been a member of the Luxury Link Travel Group board since 2006 and has taken a very active role in the company’s continued growth. Kaplan will continue to serve as a member of the company’s board.
