Titan Airways, an international passenger and freight air charter provider, has announced the introduction of a second Boeing 737-400 jet to its fleet.

The Stansted-based carrier, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary next year, will take delivery of the aircraft, registered G-POWS, in the New Year.

Configured with 146 leather seats, the aircraft has undergone a comprehensive cabin refresh in preparation for entry to the charter market in February.

The aircraft will perform passenger charter and airline sub-charter operations until October, at which time it will be converted to a freighter, becoming the carrier’s third freight-capable unit.

Titan Airways’ diverse fleet currently includes one dedicated freight unit and one quick change unit, which is utilised for both passenger and freight work.

Alastair Kiernan, business development director, Titan Airways, commented: “Since our earliest days, Titan Airways has performed both passenger and freight charter operations and this diversity has always been our strength.

“Today, we see a gap in the European freight market that G-POWS will fit nicely into after its conversion in the autumn.

“Until then, the aircraft will fulfil buoyant demand for medium capacity passenger aircraft on short and medium haul flights.”

Ahead of its arrival in early 2018, the aircraft has already attracted a number of ad hoc charter bookings for both winter 2017 and summer 2018.

Outside of these forward commitments - and prior to the freight conversion - the aircraft is being targeted towards additional tour operator flight series and will also fulfil a rapid response AOG recovery role, stepping in for third party carriers at short notice to resolve operational issues.

Looking ahead to autumn 2018 and beyond, the carrier will be pursuing medium- and long-term freight contracts for the aircraft.
