Thousands of passengers disrupted by fog in London

As fog lingers over London, thousands of passengers at airports in the capital have seen flights cancelled this morning.

More than 60 flights were cancelled at London Heathrow Airport by 09:00, while a smaller number were also hit at London City Airport.

Both locations saw dozens of flights cancelled on Sunday due to fog.

A statement from Heathrow read: “Some arriving and departing flights have been cancelled today at Heathrow, due to weather conditions in both the UK and Northern Europe.”

The airport – which handles nearly 1,400 a day – urged passengers towards its flight text service for the latest information.

Some flights bound for London City Airport were diverted to Gatwick Airport, south of London, which has not been affected by fog.

Eurocontrol has reported severe delays because of the weather across Europe - especially at airports in Amsterdam, Brussels, Vienna, Oslo, Paris and Zurich.
