Tel Aviv makes play for visitors with new initiatives

The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality and the Tel Aviv Global & Tourism Administration have launched two new schemes designed to help improve the visitor experience and strengthen the image of the city around the world.

The two schemes are a unique course for taxi drivers and free city-wide wi-fi access.

Both organisations believe the city’s 3,000 taxi drivers are the best ambassadors to the promote Tel Aviv-Yafo as a global city, as they see visitors on their arrival and during their stay.

Taxi drivers who participate in the scheme will learn about service and familiarise themselves with the city’s famous landmarks to improve visitor experience.

Drivers participating in the course will sign a service treaty, in which they will commit to withhold international standards of service and professionalism and once completed, their taxis will then carry a special Smile Taxi Tel Aviv sticker.

In addition to this, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality and the Tel Aviv Global & Tourism Administration have also announced that free wi-fi reception will be available in 80 different locations around the city.

There will be a gradual roll-out of the service over summer 2013 to ensure that visitors and business travellers can stay connected to the internet completely free of charge.
