MTA Long Island Rail Road will provide three extra eastbound trains and three extra westbound trains to bring seafood lovers to the 28th Annual Oyster Festival in Oyster Bay, L.I. on Saturday, October 15 and again on Sunday, October 16 while offering specially-priced round trip tickets. The Oyster Festival is Long Island’s largest waterfront festival attracting as many as 200,000 visitors in past years as the little North Shore hamlet celebrates its rich maritime history and connection to the waters that still produce 90 percent of the oysters and 40 percent of the hard clams harvested in New York State.
There are two discount travel packages available for LIRR customers heading to the Oyster Festival. The first package includes discounted round-trip rail from Penn Station to/from Oyster Bay Station, vouchers for three free oysters on the half-shell for adults and free admission to the midway ride “The Slide” for the children. The second package is for customers traveling from the east on the Port Jefferson Branch and includes discounted round-trip tickets to Syosset, shuttle bus service to the Oyster Festival plus the three free oysters or “Slide” ride.
At the festival, volunteer chefs and culinary pros work side by side, cooking and serving dozens of unique oyster, clam and other seafood concoctions along with traditional festival fare, a fun mixture of live entertainment, tall ships, top-notch artisans, pirate shows, midway rides, and its iconic oyster eating and shucking contest.
To its regular weekend schedule of trains to and from Oyster Bay, the LIRR is adding the following;
Extra Eastbound Service from Mineola
3 extra Oyster Bay bound trains will depart Mineola, the first at 12 noon, the second at 2 PM and the third extra train at 4 PM.
Extra Westbound Service from Oyster Bay
3 extra westbound trains will depart Oyster Bay, the first at 1:13 PM, the second at 3:13 PM and the third at 7:13 PM.
