Starwood to bring Luxury Collection to Kyoto, Japan

Mori Trust Group and Starwood Hotels & Resorts have announced their agreement to open the Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto in the Arashiyama region of Kyoto in spring of 2015.

Suiran will be the first hotel of Starwood’s ‘The Luxury Collection’ to be built in Japan, and this collaboration marks Mori Trust Group’s second with Starwood Hotels and Resorts after Westin Hotel Sendai.

Scheduled to open in spring 2015, Suiran will overlook the beautiful scenery of the Hozugawa River and is located near famous tourist sites including the Togetsukyo Bridge and Tenryuji Temple - a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The intimate 39-room hotel will make use of two nearby structures, Hasshoken and Enmei-kaku, which are more than 100-years-old and will be renovated and repurposed as a café and restaurant respectively.

Guest rooms are planned to be reminiscent of high-class ryokan (traditional Japanese inns) and will channel a mysterious ambiance with a ‘moon’ theme.
