Stagecoach UK Bus today (16 February 2010) announced the appointment of Sam Greer as Regional Director for Scotland.

Sam Greer (41), who is currently Managing Director of Stagecoach West Scotland and has more than 26 years’ experience in the bus industry, will take over from retiring Regional Director Scotland Tom Wileman on 1 May 2010.

In his new role, he will have overall responsibility for all of Stagecoach’s Scottish bus operations including Stagecoach Highland, Bluebird, Strathtay, Fife, West Scotland and the Scottish Citylink Joint Venture.

His appointment also means he will join the Stagecoach UK Bus Management Team with responsibility for health and safety, environment, engineering and purchasing.

Sam Greer began his career in 1984 as an apprentice mechanic with the then Scottish Bus Group. He later worked for London Metroline and Strathclyde Buses before joining Western Scottish in 1992 as depot engineer. Following Stagecoach’s takeover of Western Scottish, he was appointed as Engineering Director of Stagecoach West Scotland in 1997, a position he held until 2006 when he took on the role of Managing Director of the company.

Tom Wileman said: “I’m extremely proud of the success Stagecoach has achieved in attracting more people on to greener, smarter bus travel. We are widely recognised for our commitment to providing good-value, reliable and high quality bus services for our customers and I wish the company continued success in the future.”

Stagecoach UK Bus Managing Director Les Warneford added: “I’m delighted that Sam will be joining the UK Bus management team. His detailed knowledge and experience of the bus industry will be invaluable.
