Spring wedding for William & Kate

Prince William and Kate Middleton will marry on Friday April 29th at Westminster Abbey in London, Clarence House has confirmed.

William proposed to Kate while on a romantic break in Kenya during October, with the engagement confirmed by royal officials last week.

The groom proposed to his bride with his mother Diana’s diamond and sapphire engagement ring. Despite the connotations some have argued the ring carries, William said he was keen for his mother to be involved in the ceremony.

Westminster Abbey has hosted the weddings of the Queen and Queen Mother and was the venue for Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997.

The couple are believed to have selected the venue for its relative intimacy, despite it size, with guests from around the world expected to attend.

The Windsors and the Middletons will pay for the bulk of the wedding but the UK taxpayer will foot the bill for security.

However, Clarence House has repeatedly stated the couple are aware of the relatively straightened times faced by many in the country.

One Big Holiday

In response to the announcement prime minister David Cameron said it would be “a happy and momentous occasion” and would be marked by a public holiday.

Speculation is also rife over where the married couple may spend their honeymoon.
