Snow causes disruption for UK passengers

Heathrow Airport passengers have been facing further delays today with approximately 20% of flight cancellations due to snow.

In total 111 flights were cancelled at Heathrow on Saturday while approximately 250 journeys are expected to be impacted today, according to reports.

Around 2-6cm of accumulating snow and low visibility is expected throughout the day, reducing the capacity of the airport.

The airport claims if it does not take action significant disruption would occur to passengers and flights.

Weather conditions at other European airports may increase the number of cancellations.

Heathrow Chief Operating Officer, Normand Boivin, said: “We apologise for the disruption caused to passengers by the expected snow and low visibility.

“Cancelling flights in advance of disruptive weather is a procedure used increasingly around the world, as it means the greatest number of passengers can fly with the minimum amount of disruption.” adds Boivin.

Passengers due to travel are being urged to check the status of their flight with their airline before travelling to the airport.
